Without that burden of academics, which restrict us by law from having any freedom. Okay, maybe it’s not that serious, but if you think back to the good old teen years, you may have thought so.

Whether you’re just finishing high school, or not satisfied with your current job choices, it can always pay off to receive a bachelor degree in something. If you’re not sure what you’re looking for or what you’d be happy doing for the rest of your life, colleges and Univercities can help you with these decisions.

I recall coming out of high school with the feeling of relief. Wow, was I ready to ditch that place. Most of us feel a certain weight lifted when we finish high school. However, there is also a weight gained. That dread of the real world, which can give you a terrible reality check if not prepared. Money is not so easily made if you lack formal training or a bachelor degree in some specific field. The business world out there is competitive as ever with the constant growth in population, and a college education can make a world of difference in your success.

Most high school graduates enter college with no or possibly a vague idea of what they want to do with their life. Most of them know they want to make money and enjoy their career, but who knows what that career is? Career centers can help you move in that direction to understanding a career goal for you. Whether you prefer a major in the field of arts or sciences, a bachelor degree in either will help you find a job.

Your chances of attaining work go up about 90 percent after achieving a four year degree. That’s worth studying for. When I attended a University for my bachelor degree in English, I didn’t exactly know where I was headed, but I knew that I enjoyed the academics and wanted something concerning this field. Later, I went for my minor in film and knew that I wanted to write movies. The two educations complimented each other.

It doesn’t matter if you’re shooting for your bachelor degree in Anthropology or Chemical Engineering, your chances of finding a career greatly increase. It is practically essential to receive a college education in this competitive world today.

Though many people put a lot of faith in the ranking of colleges, usually favoring the top college lists formulated by magazines like U.S. News and World Report, the ranking of colleges really isn’t much of a science. That’s not to say that formulas aren’t involved. Depending on the publication, a large range of different considerations can be taken into account. Some of the standard criteria are class size, percentage of professors with advanced degrees, and the percentage of graduates which are either employed or pursuing further education within six months of graduation. These are relatively cut-and-dried numbers; there isn’t much of a fudge factor or much room for interpretation. However, once those ranking colleges get beyond these sorts of factors things start to get a little fuzzier.

For example, some reviews take into account the number of books in a university’s library when computing the school’s ranking. How many people are really concerned with how many books are in the stacks when they’re choosing a school? Other considerations which make these designations shaky is different adjustments based on the school’s reputation, which is a particularly subjective, regionally-dependent criteria. Some schools will have particularly strong reputations in one area of the country while their reputations are completely different on the opposite coast.

Though the ranking of colleges gives you some idea of how different universities are positioned, by no means allow how a school is ranked to be a deciding factor in your choice of university. If you’re accepted to schools A and B and A has a slightly higher ranking but B has a lot better feel to it, go to school B and don’t worry about school A’s ranking. If a school fits you it’s much more important than if it’s ranked highly, especially since the rankings are somewhat subjective and arbitrary to begin with.

As a general rule of thumb, allow the ranking of colleges to give you ideas of different options for school, but don’t allow the rankings to discredit or rule out any schools. Rankings are somewhat helpful in that they do give prospective students a general idea of the highly regarded universities in the country; though the #4 school probably isn’t obviously better than the #6 school, the #6 school is probably of a noticeably higher caliber than the #300 school. Sometimes colleges that you wouldn’t have otherwise considered show up on the ranking lists and could be definitely worth your consideration, just remember that there is some wiggle room in the rankings and that they don’t always reflect how things really are.

It has often been said that the education offered in our country’s colleges and universities are a direct response to the job market and the trends therein. If this is an assumption to be taken at face value, then the future for professionals with an environmental science degree could not be much brighter than it is right now. For after the industrial and the informational age, we are slowly but steadily entering the environmental age, where the environment and its characteristics are of paramount importance. Never before have we ever paid attention to the environment. But continuous exploitation of the earths natural resources and constant generation of waste, heat and other damaging refuse has done nothing to mitigate the damage we have caused to the environment. We live in an age where knowing, understanding and adapting to the environment is no longer a choice – it is the only way ahead. And such an age demands qualified professionals, especially those with professional environmental science degrees.

Anyone aspiring to be an environmental professional would typically need to go in for a BS Environmental science degree before going for an MS or a PhD. Environment science degrees are offered in all major colleges and universities across the United States. A number of allied degrees find their place with most conventional environmental science degrees. Most corporation have for long been following safety and industrial security programs. Especially in industries like biotechnology, due to the nature of the products, there are several chances for disaster. As such, disaster management and hazardous material management are fields of study that are very much in demand by today’s high technology industry. While not sufficiently comprehensive to be offered as science degrees by themselves, such courses are more often than not clubbed with typical environmental science degrees as part of a package deal.

For the environmental science degree student, it is an advantage. While pursuing a main course of study, they manage to get qualifications in a number of allied fields, making them thorough professionals, capable of entering a wide range of industries when they graduate with an environmental science degree.

In fact, as a result of the long-standing lobbying activities, the United States is home to some of the world’s largest and best funded environment groups today. Most professionals working for such groups have some sort of an environmental science degree. Jobs with government bodies, lobbying positions with parties and corporate organizations, research positions with foundations and research organizations, the environment-friendly departments of leading oil majors and even faculty positions at colleges offering environmental science degrees are all lucrative positions that professionals with an environmental science degree can hope to secure.

But an environmental science degree does not deal with environmental topics alone. Due to the very nature of their work, professionals who acquire an environmental science degree need to be equipped with allied subjects like compliance, law, criminal justice, and public communication. As such, the courses of study that ultimately lead to a environmental science degree are varied and multifarious. After all, someone with an environmental science degree is likely to be tasked with protecting our environment. And when it comes to that, we need the very best right?!

Every single student that applies for a class or course online has certain expectations going into the course and they are often unusually high. Sadly for most individuals, they will be disappointed. It’s a fact that the majority of people go in believing that they will really enjoy every aspect of their course and it’ll prove to be some kind of revelation.

The truth is that there’s very little in a degree to provoke till an individual really completes the course and is awarded the degree or certificate that would change his or her life. This isn’t different with an internet education and, really, the disillusionment could be more significant thanks to the struggle that people may face with an online course that they would not necessarily face with another course.

Online education expectations are frequently incredibly high, as previously stated, re what an individual can get from it as well as the manageability of the content itself. However, although an individual will eventually be proved right about what he or she can get from it, this may not be the case for manageability. Most online education courses are anything except controllable for those that decide to take them.

The level f work would be the same as any other degree or qualification course, but an individual is predicted to control it on his or her won instead of having a mentor or lecturer there to remind him about assignments and deadlines. Time management is intensely crucial, but the nature of these individuals’ lives regularly make it difficult to control without feeling the stresses and strains of the burden.

It is vital to be realistic with your expectations concerning an internet education course, but many are utterly impractical. If you read any of the individual accounts that are online from scholars that have already taken and might have even passed an internet education course, plenty will talk in glowing terms but you must also read between the lines.

Their accounts of their expectations will finally be fulfilled in terms of the long term benefits. However, in the short term they may say they found it troublesome to cope with the workload, the shortage of time that they really had to finish it, an unsupportive employer and so on.

This final point would possibly not be a problem if you do it to advance yourself in your current workplace, but there will otherwise be some type of bitterness effervescent under the surface and that can indeed make your life a unhappiness for a little whilst. If you’re expecting it and make preparations for it then it should not bother you too much, and if the bitterness does not come then so much the better!

In conditions of your own expectancies, the best perspective to have isn’t to go in with any at all. If you don’t expect anything then you could be pleasantly surprised. It can be hard to fit an internet education in with personal commitments, for example a family to look after or a job to go to everyday whilst trying to study.

It does take lots of effort, but if you don’t expect it to be straightforward or expect that you will just be ready to do it without the balance of your life being upset as a result, then you may possibly find that you do get a sense of satisfaction from it! Similarly, if you’re expecting the worst then you will likely be pleasantly surprised! Managing your expectations can be difficult, but don’t let them get the best of you!

If you are beginning your college career and making a decision on a major, you will need to decide whether you want either a BA (Batchelor of Arts) or BS (Batchelor of Science) degree. The major you select will sometimes determine which degree is appropriate, but you may face a dilemma.

The BA and BS are different types of degrees, each focused on preparing you for the specific demands of a particular set of career fields.

However, each may require some of the same educational needs, such as a college level understanding of mathematics, basic science, humanities, and definitely fundamental communication skills. You should be able to register for a number of elective classes that supplement your degree but are not required.

Overview of Bachelor of Arts Degree

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree is a broader, more inclusive degree that provides a humanities-based education at most schools. Focusing on scholarly abilities like reasoning, complex thinking, question forming, and close analysis, it provides a broad knowledge of many fields.

Not only do the courses in this type of degree teach a student a specific field, it helps to produce in the student the ability to think and learn on their own. This prepares him or her for a wide range of career options.

Earning a BA generally requires 120-160 credits or more of a wide range of college level courses. At least 30 of these credits will be in one focus area, with half of them at upper levels. Majors that offer BA degrees include, but are not limited to, languages, history, and literature.

Overview of Bachelor of Science Degree

The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, on the other hand, is for majors focussed on scientific fields, as the name obviously implies. This means that, as a degree, it is much more technical, as scientific knowledge requires a closer study to grasp in a functional manner.

Thus, a more comprehensive understanding of mathematics is generally required. Often students will spend much of their time mastering new technology and memorizing the complex systems in one’s field of study. Less time is spent on general thinking skills, and more on research methods.

This degree also usually requires 120-160 credits or more, but otherwise is very different. Most of the classes taken will be related to the major. While there is room for electives, there are fewer choices and a much more narrow focus to prepare you to become a professional in your field.

If you want to be a scientist or work with new technology, you need a BS degree. In general, it is more stringent than a BA, but prepares you more fully for a specific career.

Students have lots of college options. Instead of having to enroll in a college or university, sometimes outside of your home area, students have the option of attending higher education classes online. With the ease of attending online college or university courses, it’s no wonder there has been growth of online degree programs. There are other reasons for this growth as well.

More and more college students are getting their degrees online. It is believed that one in ten students currently attending college does so online, with that number expected to continue to increase.

One great thing about online degree programs is you don’t have to actually be located anywhere specific to enroll. With online degree programs, you can attend any college you like from home, as long as they offer an online degree program. In fact, you could attend several different colleges or universities at once, if you have the time and the funds to do so.

Another reason why distance learning colleges are so popular is the convenience of learning from home. You never have to attend a long, boring, dry lecture by a professor in a hot, stuffy, crowded room. You never even have to step foot onto the physical campus, you never have to attend a single class, or any other required assemblies required by on-campus students.

Believe it – distance learning can be cheaper than traditional classroom learning. You need not worry about room and board fees. In fact, in many cases, the online costs include all materials and textbooks required for the course rather than having to pay for each course’s books separately. You can probably envision some other ways you’d save money too.

Did you know that regular old financial aid is available for online students? Financial aid is available for students in the form of scholarships, Pell grants, and student loans. Contact the Financial Aid department at your school of choice to find out what programs are available to online students.

Enjoy anytime, anywhere learning options. You can access course work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. No need to be concerned about missing class, you can take them when they fit your schedule. If you have a PC and Internet access you’re golden. You can also listen to the course lectures over in case you’ve missed something.

After you’ve completed your degree, check with the college or university to see if they have a career services center to help you get a job in your new profession. In many cases the school will help you obtain a job, although there may be additional costs associated with this service.

Some online degree programs are geared toward a particular job market. If this is the case, the faculty and staff will be up-to-date on current market trends. They can more easily adjust curriculum to match current trends which could give those students a leg up on other students entering the job market at the same time.

Unlike traditional colleges and universities, online degree programs often use faculty that have real-life work experience in relation to the subjects they’re teaching. You could pursue an online psychology or nursing degree online. Are you interested in banking? One of your instructors may be a vice-president of a bank. Is Criminal Justice more your style? What student wouldn’t like to be taught the tricks of the trade by someone who’s actually apprehended a felon rather than just read about it in books.

True, these reasons aren’t the only ones that a student considering an online degree program might use to help them decide whether this method of education is for them. However, these aspects are important ones to think about along with finding answers to your own questions. Spend an hour or two investigating online degree programs and distance learning. You might be surprised to see how well it fits your life.

Few years ago, it was really hard to find any bachelor of accounting degree online; however, today it is not that difficult to get a bachelor of accounting degree online. This is a great opportunity for all working students or working adults as well. It is suitable for all working people who want to upgrade their self by having a bachelor of accounting degree online. Getting a degree online can greatly help in managing the pace and time of study.

Making Your Final Decision on Online Education

Self-motivation is one of the reasons why most of the students go for bachelor of accounting degree online. There are many students who just want to excel over other fellow students. These are some of the main reasons why most of the young students go for these online degree programs. Self-motivation is the key to success for these online degree programs because there will be no one to force you to study since the control of time and pace for your studies will be with you only.

So Much Opportunities Online — Which to Choose?

Just because there are many degrees that you can take online, it’s not the time to go shopping-happy. First, you need to figure out what you want to achieve in the long run. Where do you want to work? How much do you want to earn? Is accountancy a possible option that you’d take? Would you want to be professionally certified by becoming a CPA?

Once you have the answers to these questions and the important information to back them up, then you’re prepared to look for the right school for you. Be mindful of certain schools that don’t prepare their students for any CPA certification or any work with the government. Once you find a potential school, give them a call and ask the questions you need answers to.

Check For Appropriate Accreditation

The bachelor of accounting degree online programs offered by schools proliferate all over the Internet, and each one of them are different. Some aren’t up to par with what you want to achieve, and you have to make sure they have the right licenses to teach and the appropriate accreditations. Look for a school that’s accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Ivy League universities such as the Harvard Business School don’t offer a bachelor of accounting degree online. However, there is one college that is not as prestigious as Harvard but is just as respected and accredited by students worldwide — DeVry. A degree from the DeVry curriculum would be the same as getting a degree from a state university.

Today, getting online degrees has become really easy with the help of internet technologies that we have today, however, before applying for any online degree program, make sure that the school is accredited and offering accredited accounting degree program. For that, you need to investigate about your chosen university and you will be required to do some research before applying.

Has life put your dreams of obtaining a higher education on hold? Are you afraid that working forty hours a week and having kids makes your dream of going to college impossible. Not anymore, with the age of internet comes the realization of your dreams. It is now possible to obtain a degree from the convenience of your own home, on your schedule without ever stepping foot on a campus.

So now the search is on. With so many on-line schools out there, how do you pick the right one? There are some important things to consider when searching for the perfect school for you.

Is the school accredited? Accredited means that a school has been officially recognized as meeting standards or criterion.

Is the school able to meet your basic requirements that you need to be able to obtain work in your chosen field?

How many students are in each classroom setting? Can the instructor meet each individuals needs?

What certificates or degrees are available? A certificate is a document that states that you have completed the courses and have met certain standards. Certificates are often awarded through schools offering shorter courses. A degree is a title that is awarded by a school following the successful completion of study in a particular field. A degree can take from two years or longer to receive. How long will it take to obtain a certificate or degree in your chosen field?

Does the school have technical support available? Is it available at all times or just specific hours? How available is the instructor?

Is the tuition all inclusive? Are there additional fees for books, labs, or any other fee that must be paid?

Does the school aid in employment placement? What is the percentage of students who graduate that are working in their field of study?

What type of financial aid is available? Does FAFSA recognize the school? Are there scholarships or grants available? Is there in-house financing available and at what interest rate?

By utilizing the tips outlined above, you are ensuring that you have the pertinent information available to you in order to make an informed decision.

Do not be afraid to ask questions of the recruiters that you talk to. They are there to answer questions and inform you about their school and their programs. However, do not let them pressure you by pushing you to enroll before you are ready.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, do not attend any school that offers you less than what you desire. With so many schools available to choose from, there is no reason that you cannot find a school that offers you everything that you need to be successful in whatever career field you want to enter.

If you’re in the field of nursing, there’s a decent chance you’ve heard of the College Network. I am in now way affiliated with them, but it may be worth your time to check it out. Why? Because they represent many different types of degrees and many different universities.

The College Network (TCN) is not like any other place that lists different colleges and degrees because they actually have a partnership with those schools to help you earn their degree. They are based out of Indianapolis, and have been around for a dozen years or so. Their specialty is in nursing degrees (ASN, BSN, MSN), but they have added several different health care degrees and business degrees.

Think of this way – it’s like insurance. You can go to a company like State Farm or AllState, or you can find a reputable insurance broker (like Al Banker in Texas), who represents many different insurance companies, thereby matching you up with the best carrier at the best price. So, TCN would be like an “accredited college degree broker.”

Here are what I see as the pros and cons:

Pros:

Many different choices of degrees

Full university support

Accredited Degree choices

Course work guarantees

Most degree programs are 100% distance learning

Most degree programs are 100% self paced

Cost (less money than taking all your courses at a 4-year college)

Financing is available

Fully accredited degrees

Cons

If you speak to the wrong degree advisor, you’d think you were speaking to a used car salesman

Cost (more money than a 2-year community college)

There’s not a lot of cons. Many of the pros could also be said for going straight to the university. But, the biggest asset you have with TCN is choice. If you can get past “being sold” a degree, I think you’d be hard pressed to find a better place to explore degree options.

Here is part 2 in our series on things you should know when planning for or choosing a bachelors degree online

Third, if your budget is tight, it pays to check out the tuition each school charges. Usually, they will break down the tuition per credit, so you can see how much each credit costs, and therefore how much each class costs.

Finally, what do you need to do to apply? Every university will have specific admission requirements. You may need a high school diploma or an SAT score. Check with each university you are considering to make sure you aren’t accepted because you forgot to include some pertinent piece of information to Admissions.

As you can see, you need to start doing your homework before you even enroll in school! If you use these criteria to help you choose the right online bachelor’s degree for you, it will help you find the education you are looking for.

This is part one in a series of tips and ideas for choosing an online bachelors degree.

If you’ve ever thought about going back to school for a degree, you may want to think about getting a bachelor’s degree online. More and more accredited schools are offering this to potential students, and there are a lot of benefits to getting your degree online, like making it fit your work schedule, no travel costs and benefiting from academic minds the world over. The most important four criteria for choosing the source of your online degree should help you choose the best degree and university for you.

First, when choosing to get an online bachelor’s degree, the first thing you want to consider is what do you want to study? Most online degrees focus on accounting, business, management and related fields of study. If any of these appeal to you or can help you move up at work, you may want to consider which one you want to tackle.

Second, check out the online schools. Are they accredited? Wasting money on a school that no one will recognize won’t help you. Accredited schools meet certain criteria with the Department of Education and the Higher Commission for Learning. Alternatively, you may choose a school that is accredited with the Distance Education Training Council (DETC). While many employers recognize DETC schools, the credits may not transfer to a traditional university if you choose to pursue more education later.
